Soprano Cree Carrico is an emerging singing actress whose repertoire spans roles of Mozart and Verdi to the recent creations of Corigliano and Heggie. She performed Marie Antoinette in The Ghosts of Versailles, Jenny Smith in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, and Liza Elliot in scenes from Kurt Weills Lady in the Dark, all at Manhattan School of Music. In the spring of 2013, Cree gave the New York premiere of Heggies monodrama At the Statue of Venus, performed in Carousel with the New York Philharmonic, starring Nathan Gunn and Kelli OHara, and curated and performed The Ophelia Project, a unique program of art songs, arias and monologues, at the National Opera Center. Equally at home in musical theater, Cree performed in Cabaret, Sunday in the Park with George , and worked closely with John Kander on a new version of Flora the Red Menace at while at Oberlin. A finalist in the Ades Competition, Lotte Lenya Competition and for the Houston Grand Opera Studio, Cree currently studies with celebrated pedagogue Marlena Malas and returns to Chautauqua Opera this summer for her role debut as Baby Doe in The Ballad of Baby Doe.
