Greye La Spina’s short story “Antimacassar” first appeared in Weird Tales in 1949, and since then, has been anthologized many times. The tale is a vampire story at heart, but what sets it apart from other vampire tales is its setting. La Spina trades traditional Transylvania castles for a cozy home atmosphere, in this case an old Pennsylvania Dutch farmhouse. Don’t be fooled, though; the vampire in this story is not a cozy creature. Rather, the tale is one of cold-blooded murder.
