In today's episode, Dr. Matt Jordan shares with me the experience when working with athletes to study their performance.

He holds a PhD in Medical Science and Masters in Exercise Physiology. Matt shares with me some advice from his mentors as he comes into a career of his own as a sport scientist and coach.

Studying an athlete's performance is not easy to measure and there are different methods to consider. Matt tells me about an early time using instruments to measure athletes where he forgot the thing that has become his #1 rule.

We talk about injuries and whether or not it's possible to predict them. Plus the timeline for recovery when you become injured - regardless of if you're an elite athlete or not.

Before I give him my season 2 question: what's the purpose of sport, I ask Matt as a scientist whether rate of perceived exertion (RPE) is worth anything in his world.
