In today's episode I sit down with John Kelly - ultra runner and one of only 15 people to have completed the Barkley Marathons.

I ask him how he found himself get into ultras in the first place. Something that varies with each guest I find myself speaking to that has decided to truly go the distance in running.

He gives us an explanation of what Barkley is and what is happening out in the woods in Tennessee. Success comes for very few people and John has his own idea on who it is that is most likely to succeed to Barkley.

John and I chat about the purpose of running outside of being able to run fast.

I ask John about how much are ultras a race of attrition rather than speed and the power of the mind.

As a father, John has a unique perspective on how to approach motivating his kids while realizing that not everyone has the potential to be the best in the world. I ask him about how he deals with these sometimes opposite attitudes of believing anything is possible while knowing everyone has limits.

I ask John about his Guinness Book of World Record's attempt at the marathon dressed as a video game character.

As we start part 3 I ask John what reason he has to be out there doing 100+ mile races like Barkley when there's often little chance of finishing.

John shares how he found himself as a pro triathlete, setting the record for the slowest swim for a sub 9-hour ironman.

As we diverge in our conversation John shares what he's doing at his current job in analyzing cyber security risks of various companies.
