How do we respond to times of intense difficulty, complexity, and sorrow? In what ways is the church called to be alongside those who are suffering and grieving? The spirit of our age is immediate judgment and charged reaction to every single event. Yet Jesus says we should mourn with those who mourn, or as Paul instructs us here in Romans, to groan with all creation as it is subject to sinful futility. When this is our first response, we better fulfill our call to compassion and grace in a world that regularly moves away from these things.
