StitchCast Studio is a podcast produced by Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective in Saint Louis, Missouri.
It’s a show about the streets, gun violence, and finding solutions to issues that are coming at our youth hard. The voices of youth of color are important to hear at this critical time.
StitchCast Studio creates a series of leveled conversations about issues that concern youth related to health, safety and violence. This is the place to come to hear real conversations about what’s on the minds of 16-24 year old St. Louis youth and catch some powerful new ideas for solutions.
Programs include original spoken word and music produced by Saint Louis Story Stitchers.

Saint Louis Story Stitchers Artists Collective presents Peace in the Prairie, an original presentation exploring the concepts of peace and violence, juxtaposing urban life as experienced by African American people living in the city of St. Louis, Missouri and the state’s endangered prairie lands.

Emma Klues has been with Great Rivers Greenway since early 2014, currently serving as the Vice President of Communications & Outreach. The goal is to tell the St. Louis region about the greenways, listen to ideas and concerns from community members and create ways for people to live life outside. She loves being outside, leading laughter yoga, eating at local restaurants and giving back to her community. Shaughnessy Daniels is the Director of Civic Engagement at Great Rivers Greenway where she leads the agency’s efforts to gather input that guides planning and implementation for greenway projects.

Watch and be a part of Story Stitchers live podcast discussions, presented on the state-of-the-arts stage of 3301 Washington Ave. Story Stitchers artists and guest artists will round out each presentation with live art interludes.
Youth, ages 16-25 years old, discuss current topics in live podcast recordings on stage. Live art interludes are incorporated into the presentations. Learn about the community through the words of young leaders.
Youth, ages 16-25, lead meaningful dialogues that inspire original content in mentor-led workshops based on participants’ lived experiences in economically disadvantaged, high crime areas. Podcasts focus on the streets, gun violence, and finding solutions to issues that are coming at our youth hard. The project goal is to gain greater understanding of the needs and desires of the youth served and to give them an amplified voice to create needed changes in society, to support youth in a successful transition to adulthood, and to reduce youth crime in St. Louis. Youth artists use dialogue, adult guests, original poetry, and music to highlight their personal experiences with gun violence, life transitions, and mental health, promoting mutual respect for diverse ideas, greater understanding, and a more peaceful society.

StitchCast Studio Special Edition: The Divided City is a series of four unique conversations that will bring historical context around recurring topics chosen by youth in the StitchCast Studio published podcasts, including: the preservation of black history and historical sites and the stories of Missouri's people throughout time. The Series dovetails into Story Stitchers’ multi-year signature program, The WHY of MY City, which focuses on the stories and history embedded in St. Louis, Missouri’s historically Black neighborhoods.

The story…Wanda, a young African American, returns to St. Louis after graduating high school. She wants to explore opportunities, but Zoot Suit, a well-known gangster, entices her to come work for him. The community rallies to prevent Wanda from making a serious mistake and with the help of Scott Joplin, Madam CJ Walker, Cool Papa Bell and Tina Turner, they manage to save her from the clutches of Zoot Suit.

Youth leaders discuss current events around the gun violence epidemic in the wake of the school shooting in May when an 18-year-old fatally shot nineteen students and two teachers and wounded seventeen other people at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and during high rates of accidental and unintentional shootings involving children in St. Louis where, as of June 14, at least 53 children 17 or under have been shot. StitchCast Studio SPECIAL EDITION: Perception Isn’t Always Reality: Part III
Youth leaders hold a public Story Circle as part of the Perception Isn’t Always Reality.
With support from the CDC Foundation, the Saint Louis Story Stitchers project Perception Isn’t Always Reality will engage Black teen and young adult artists to re-evaluate messages they may have received about COVID and vaccinations and evaluate the sources of the information. Through their own brand of urban storytelling that involves collaborative work in hip-hop music, krump dance, videography, photography, and podcasting, the artists will produce a body of work for the public to view on urban canvases, such as the sides of city buses, and listen to on the airwaves.

Youth leaders hold a public Story Circle as part of the Perception Isn’t Always Reality.
With support from the CDC Foundation, the Saint Louis Story Stitchers project Perception Isn’t Always Reality will engage Black teen and young adult artists to re-evaluate messages they may have received about COVID and vaccinations and evaluate the sources of the information. Through their own brand of urban storytelling that involves collaborative work in hip-hop music, krump dance, videography, photography, and podcasting, the artists will produce a body of work for the public to view on urban canvases, such as the sides of city buses, and listen to on the airwaves.

StitchCast Studio SPECIAL EDITION: Perception Isn’t Always Reality: Part I
Youth leaders hold a public Story Circle as part of the Perception Isn’t Always Reality.

Youth leaders will discuss the war in Ukraine and the effects of the trauma of war on youth with Vy-Thao N Dao, a refugee from the Viet Nam War who lives and works in St. Louis.
Vy-Thao N Dao was born after the Viet Nam War ended. Her parents lived through the war and as a result, her father was detained in a re-education camp over 6 years, the majority of his 20’s. Vy came to the United States in the early 1990’s through the human operation program that sponsored all families that were incarcerated because of the war. Vy says there are many Vietnamese people living in St. Louis who came here through this program.
Youth leaders and Vy will discuss war and its impact on families and youth through stories of her own family and the migration of war refugees out of one’s home country.

Story Stitchers youth artists discuss domestic violence in a live podcast recording on stage with Brigid Welch, the Director of Crisis and Community Education at Safe Connections. Learn how to recognize domestic violence and how to help yourself or a loved one get out of a bad situation.
Brigid has a background in the Higher Education and Intimate Partner Violence/Sexual Violence fields. Brigid has lived in St. Louis for 10 years and has a master’s degree in Education and master’s degree in Social Work. Through their work on college campuses, Brigid learned about the prevalence of sexual violence and relationship violence among college students. The reality of addressing such issues on campus was the catalyst for Brigid to go into advocacy for survivors and ultimately prevention education. Brigid is a certified intimate partner violence/sexual violence advocate for the states of Missouri and Illinois, has direct service experience in survivor support, and serves as a prevention educator throughout the St. Louis metro area. Brigid is passionate about sexual health education, anti-racist/anti-oppression work, and creative expression.

StitchCast Studio Special Edition: The Divided City is a series of four unique conversations in the series will bring historical context around recurring topics chosen by youth in the StitchCast Studio published podcasts, including: the culture of trauma caused by poverty and repeated exposure to violence amongst families of color in St. Louis, stories of disorientation and dislocation of black families, and the power of story as healer in black cultures through time.
This episode features a conversation with Story Stitchers’ youth led by Stitchers Youth Council co-chairs Branden Lewis and Emeara Burns with author and educator John A. Wright, Sr. and Sowande’ Mustakeem, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History and African and African American Studies at Washington University. Recorded live in Zoom February 9, 2021.

Youth leaders discuss painting a fence mural on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive as a part of The Shelter Project, a community collaboration which creates a bus shelter and fence mural painting for the neighborhood with collaborators Kim Jayne and Hassan Shariff from the Wellston Loop Community Development Corporation, bus shelter designers Jessica Colangelo and Charles Sharpless from Somewhere Studio, LLC, and Adrian Gonzalez from Katherine Bernhardt's studio. Youth Council members worked with artist Katherine Bernhardt to create the mural, which is located on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. at Hodiamont. Recorded live in Zoom September 15, 2020.
