In this episode, Dr Maria Kitsara, Lead Research Manager on biomedical applications at BioG3D – New 3D printing technologies, and I discuss:

  • utilising nanotechnology, micro-fabrication and microfluidics to advance tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for faster and more economical drug development through in-vitro diagnostics as well as for reducing the risk of drug withdrawal after reaching the market,

  • the benefits of diverse working environments and background experts in developing the necessary soft skills to acquire a holistic approach to scientific research and innovation,

  • communication and managerial skills are equally important, along with the scientific background in research and innovation.

Maria, a materials engineer, has a PhD in miniaturised biosensors and had received three personal research grants on biosensors, microfluidics, and biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. She has worked in Dublin City University in Ireland, in the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Spain, and at the École Normale Supérieure and Sorbonne University in France.
