Sixty percent of folks from underrepresented groups expend an emotional tax at work. This may include a lack of belonging, masking emotions because their experiences don't "fit" or not feeling safe enough to bring their full identities to the table. That's a lot of people who feel frayed at the edges and miss out on thriving.
I am joined by LaTonya Wilkins - a Chicago-based executive coach, speaker, and Diversity/Equity/Inclusion (DEI) strategist. She tells us what remaining unfrayed looks like if you are underrepresented at work through courage and finding your tribe. In Part Two, we highlight the responsibility leaders & organizations have in equity and inclusion. LaTonya talks about dealing with the MUCK under the training, hashtags, and shiny ads -- a feature in her upcoming book, Leading Below the Surface (releasing 2021)!
Many thanks to LaTonya for this incredible discussion. I am honored to have had the opportunity to chat with her especially in this crucial snapshot of our history in the Black Lives Matter movement.
