In a recent interview with IGN, newly retired F-Zero producer, Takaya Imamura, explained why we haven't seen a new F-Zero game in almost 20 years.

“without a grand new idea, it’s hard to bring it back."

This sent Nintendo fans into a frenzy. Many don't agree that F-Zero needs a  "grand new idea". But, amid all the complaining, no one has really proposed any galaxy brain solutions.
