Fear, Grief, Over-joy, Worry, Anger. Similar to Walt Disney’s film, Inside Out, these emotions are running around in our mind. When these emotions run rampant in us, it can often impact us both psychologically and physiologically as your emotions are intimately connected with your physical health as well. Likewise, if you’ve been affected physically, you may be more susceptible to feeling more angry, fearful, worried etc… Take a seat and sit with us, when we discuss emotions in Chinese Medicine.

What are Meridians? Simply put, meridians are an ‘energy highway’ in the human body. This allows the little cars or Qi to flow around the body. When there’s a jam or a car accident, this will usually cause problems in the body. This week’s episode, we identify the 12 meridians and discuss how acupuncture can help in restoring the little cars back through the complex highway systems.

‘Sing us a song, you’re the piano man’. Instead of singing about pianos, we’re singing about the organ. Zang Fu organs to be specific. This week on Forever Yang, the merry band talk about the organs, their individual functions and how they react with one another. It’s important that they all are equally balanced so they can all sing together in harmony. Come join us for this week’s episode about Zang Fu Organs

Welcome back friends! This week we are joined by our 2nd lovely guest, Boris Lukin. We gave him the usual warm welcome here on Forever Yang… by integrating him to hand over all his golden nuggets of knowledge. Boris Lukin is an Osteopath at Beyond Fitness and a lecturer. The usual band of thieves’ interrogate Boris for his knowledge on what it takes to be a good practitioner, whether it be how to build rapport with a patient, not know how to treat a patient and even if it comes to it… firing a patient. We cover it all in this week’s episode of Forever Yang

Quiescence is the state of when a cell is resting and at peace. We certainly felt at ease in this week’s episode. We’re joined by the beautiful and passionate, Annalise Drok, our very first guest! Annalise has focused on developing her knowledge and understanding of women’s health and fertility. She’s been awarded a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Chinese Medicine and a Bachelor of Consumer and Applied Sciences in Human Nutrition. Her calm and patient nature was well demonstrated as the three co-hosts (Nic, Charlene, and Tim/Tom) tried to pick her brains for life after a student.

This episode is a fun little case on Jane Doe. Poor Jane has been suffering from Irregular bowels for 5 years. Narrated by the wonderful Charlene, the other 3 band together, to use the art of deduction and work through the case and how to help treat Jane. They cover differential diagnosis, acupuncture points as well as herbal formulas that would be used in this case.
The Case:
Jane Doe, Female, 43
Main complaint – Irregular Bowels for 5 years
Jane is an office worker and tends to be an over thinker. She has frequent bowel movements and can occur up to 8 times a day. She feels incomplete after the first few times and requires to go more frequently. The first movement is usually bigger with a loose consistency and urge but have no smell. There is no pain associated with the bowels. She feels easily bloated and can occur spontaneously.
She feels lethargic and feels cranky and tired, especially in the afternoon after work. Her head feels ‘congested’ and ‘foggy’. Poor jane also gets dull frontal headaches when she’s tired. She also feels thirsty throughout the day (despite drinking water). There aren’t any problems with her sleep or urination.
Pulse: Thready especially in the guan position
Tongue: Pale with enlarged edges and watery coat
If you guys like this sort of case study, let us know and we’ll do some more in the future 😊

Food, Food, Food! The hungry hungry hippos in this episode talk about the different diets such as intermittent fasting, Ketogenic Diet, Vegetarianism, military diet, and FODMAPS and how these diets affect the body in a TCM perspective. Tim/Tom shares his experience with Keto and I.F and his lack of knowledge about potatoes being high G.I (good one Tom!). They further their discussion by talking about what the ‘recommended’ diet in TCM should be.

In this episode, the Yangsters talk about tongue and pulse. As one of the fundamentals in TCM diagnosis, the tongue and pulse provide the practitioner with a clear insight into how the body is functioning. The 3 main aspects for tongue diagnosis are the coating, colour and shape. Whilst the main aspects for the pulse are the rate, strength and width.

This episode, the usual suspects – Brendan, Charlene, Nic and Tim/Tom talk about the concept of Yin and Yang and its relevance as a philosophy and treatment principle. While against contrary belief to Yin = bad and Yang = good, they try their best to explain the concepts while providing their experiences of how it is used in their clinical practice.
