Proverbs 9:4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” To him who lacks sense she says, 5 “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. 6 Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”
Simpleton Me R Aylor
Throughout the Old Testament we find what are known as "Types" which prefigure Christ in the New Testament. Solomon has made out Wisdom as a character in Proverbs in which Jesus can be inserted within its place quite often with doctrinal integrity.
Here are a few:
Wisdom calls those who lack sense to leave their simple ways and turn toward her. (Jesus calls sinners to turn away from their sin and toward him. Luke 5:32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”)
In our Proverbs text, Wisdom invites us to eat and drink. Jesus invites us to eat and drink. Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
John 19:30 says: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Are you a simpleton? Then you may come to Wisdom. Do you hunger and thirst? Then you may eat her bread and drink of her wine. Do you lack an in-depth understanding and your purpose in life? Then come to Wisdom; yes, rather come to Jesus and live.
Again Jesus calls in Matthew 11:28: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
