While it’s good for us to root ourselves in the Old Testament to understand why Christ is needed, the only thing that matters now is faith expressing itself through love.
This section compares our freedom in Christ to Rebekah and Isaac, wife and son of Abraham who were his true heirs. We are free because of our faithfulness to God and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
Paul is perplexed by the willingness of the Galatians to listen to the Judaizers here. Just as Paul warns the Galatians where they are getting their theology from, we, too, must be discerning with where we get our theology from as well.
As we move through the process of sanctification, we must continually rid ourselves of our old self and put on our new self in Christ.
We are the heirs of God and as such we have a responsibility to ensure that the father’s kingdom continues to move forward.
Why was the law a curse? How does the Old Testament law lead us to the freedom of the Gospel?
We have always been justified by faith. Even in the Old Testament, Abraham, before Jesus was crucified and conquered death, was counted as righteous because of his faith, not because of his works.
Remember back to when you were first saved. The gospel didn’t come to you because you did a bunch of good things, the gospel came to you freely because of what Jesus did on the cross. Finish what you started, correctly.
By the works of the law none will be justified. We need to be careful to add nothing to the sacrificial work of Christ on the cross. Christ alone!
This is Paul’s testimony and his call to spread the gospel to those who had not yet heard it with an emphasis on the poor.

Paul rebukes the Galatians and reminds them that our goal is to please one person only, and that is God.
