Though he had done them good, they returned for this seeking his calamity. Considering this situation, that it was after his sin with Bathsheba, and that it probably was during the three years Absalom was carrying his plot to take the throne forward, while the illness debilitated David to the extent he could not oppose the scheme of his son Absalom and his confederates.
