Cecília Benevides de Carvalho Meireles (1901 - 1964) is a 20th century Brazilian poet, teacher and journalist. Despedida features in the book Flor de poems, published in 1972. The poem is based on a dialogue with questions and answers posed to a supposed interlocutor with whom a communication is established.
