Saturday November 2, 2019 on Behind the Blue Curtain we’re going to discuss the conversation that African American and other families of color have with their kids regarding interacting with the police. This conversation usually takes place around 8-10 years old. It’s not a “Police are your friend” or “You can trust the police” conversation. It’s not a demonization of police but it is centered around your child’s safety. You must teach them that they may be stopped for no reason, pulled over for no reason, spoken to harshly, and treated like a criminal for no reason. Now that sounds hard to some of you, but its factual. Sure, not every Police Officer is bad, but the statistics don’t lie. African Americans are disproportionately stopped, searched, arrested and receive harsher sentences than white Americans. Enforcement of the immigrational policy is aimed at “those brown people” in the southern United States. Even white parents with black children have had this conversation with their children. If they haven’t, they will. The problem is NOT white people. The problem is racial and cultural ignorance in enforcement of laws, and a “for profit” prison and legal system.
