The vintage 1946 film noir movie Deception will be played at the Figge Art Museum on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Prior to the film, Hannah Holman, Principal Cellist for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, will talk about Eleanor Aller Slatkin, the female cellist who played the Korngold Cello Concerto for the film. Erich Wolfgang Korngold composed his Concerto specifically for this movie. Eleanor Aller Slatkin was an accomplished musician who became the principal cellist for the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra in 1939. She played the concert premiere of the Korngold Cello Concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and had a long, illustrious career. In 1958 she won a Grammy Award as a member of the Hollywood String Quartet which she co-founded with her husband, Felix Slatkin. Due to clever filming, many viewers of the film Deception erroneously believe that the Concerto was performed by Paul Henreid, who played the character of the cellist Karel Novak in the movie.
