Visitors, the latest installment in my ongoing After Hours mix series, is a cinematic journey through cosmic deep house and otherworldly techno.
I initially started this mix with an idea to make a laid-back house mix with an autumnal vibe. Along the way though, it become something very different, something a bit stranger, and I just decided to push it further in that direction.
The vibe here is a really interesting mix of warm, almost jazzy deep house, with a lot of otherworldly techno sounds swirling around. I mostly stayed away from tracks with straightforward vocals, and instead layered tracks together that had strange vocalizations, almost like aliens trying to learn our language. I saw the film Arrival while I was making this, and it really had a strong influence on how the mix turned out. I began to think of this mix as a movie; it definitely has the feeling of taking a journey, with many interesting plot twists along the way.
