The Glorious attribute -  Ash Shakoor, Surah 14 v5, Surah 35 v30 & Surah 64 v17.Allah SWT is thankful to the servant because of the Good he does for his own benefit- whilst the servant is thankful to those who do good to him.A man carries his mother just as she carried him, Ibn Umar (ra) states, that’s not even equal to one breath/kick whilst you were in her womb (Baihaqi).So how can one thank Allah SWT ?Allah SWT will swiftly reward those who serve him with Gratitude, Surah 3v 144.A person is afflicted with a calamity due to 2 reasons, a sin which will not be forgiven except by the calamity or because of a certain status which cannot be attained except by this calamity.The astute will then seek forgiveness by different means and avenues!
