Hi! I'm Stephanie Rodin, host of the Speaking with Steph podcast. In this episode, I want to speak to you about a significant update impacting healthcare providers and employers across the country: the evolving landscape of non-compete clauses and the latest changes proposed by the FTC and state legislatures.
In this episode, we discuss:
How the FTC's ongoing effort to limit non-competes continues to evolve, even after its broader ban was struck down.
What the FTC is targeting now, including healthcare employers and staffing firms, and why those developments may affect smaller practices over time.
Changes to non-competes in several states, including Pennsylvania, Colorado, Indiana, and Arkansas.
Why New York's pending legislation could matter for workers earning under 500,000 and for all health-related professionals, regardless of compensation.
How New Jersey's pending bill could eliminate non-compete provisions entirely, regardless of industry or pay level.
What employers should do now, including reviewing agreements state by state and confirming that any remaining restrictions are reasonable and legally defensible.

Stephanie Rodin
Hi! I’m Stephanie Rodin, host of the Speaking with Steph podcast. In this episode, I’ll be talking to you directly with respect to the new bill enacted in 2022, the No Surprises Act. Passed to provide protection to patients who inadvertently received care from an out-of-network provider that they did not choose on their own. These surprise bills pose a financial hardship to the patients who, in the end, didn’t choose that provider. It is estimated that this bill will apply to appx 10mil out-of-network surprise medical bills this year alone.
In this episode, we discuss:
Stephanie Rodin is the founder and principal of Rodin Legal, P.C. and has been practicing law since 1998, with a majority of that time assisting the healthcare practitioner.
Starting from a young age, Stephanie has been exposed to the medical/dental field, as her immediate family all practice within the healthcare field. As a result, she was surrounded by various medical and legal issues that routinely arose during the practice of medicine and dentistry. This provided Stephanie with the expertise that serves as the foundation of her legal practice. Rodin Legal, P.C. caters to these legal complexities and is dedicated to the growth of professional practices.

Stephanie Rodin
Hi! I’m Stephanie Rodin, host of the Speaking with Steph podcast. It’s a new podcast that will provide information across multiple industries who support small businesses, with a slight concentration in healthcare practices. The goal is to provide educational information to our listeners that will help them to better understand small business, and to outline issues that they may come across as they grow and expand.
Since my early childhood, I have been surrounded by healthcare professionals, as my immediate relatives are either dentists or physicians whose practices encompass a variety of specialties. As a result, even before I decided to pursue a career in law, I was exposed to the legal issues that routinely arise during the practice of dentistry and medicine.
After many years working in the field of dental/medical defense malpractice, where I learned firsthand the pitfalls that await those who do not properly set up their practices, I established my own firm, Rodin Legal, P.C., in 2010 to provide advice, counsel, and legal expertise to help my clients navigate the legal complexities attendant to the healthcare field.
My firm concentrates on assisting individual and multi-member practices to ensure their legal protection and profitability from formation until retirement. From setting up the right legal entity to preparing practice consent forms to reviewing and drafting the necessary legal agreements, Rodin Legal, P.C. is the legal resource to inform healthcare practices of how best to protect themselves during expansion and growth, to avoid or reduce the likelihood of audits and run a practice with limited risk.
