In January 2000, Jay enlisted in the United States Army. The Army taught him loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Those core values complimented and reinforced what he learned as a child. Once in the Army Jay’s skill and dedication were quickly recognized. He gained rank quickly and was selected to be on a small, specialized team. On November 24, 2004, Jay’s life and walk with God changed forever. While on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq, he was injured by a roadside bomb. Jay lost both legs above the knee and sustained numerus other wounds. Jay retired from the Army in October 2005 as a Staff Sergeant.
