It is not specifically recorded in the bible, but it is said that this Psalm is about Goliath. The 144th Psalm is also said to be about Goliath. In that Psalm, David declares that he has a new song to sing. It is a setting of a new tone and sound for his life. David remembered the fear and cowering of God’s people about Goliath. God gave a great victory that day, and David began to sing a new song. We all have Goliaths in our life. The Philistines had long been a source of interruption and disruption of peace. The represented everything that is trying to keep us from enjoying the life that God wants for us. They had come to wage war with Israel and their champion was formattable. The bible describes as a beast of a man who was intimidating both physically and vocally. He loudly challenged God's people for many days. The attack that the enemy made had a dramatic affect on God’s people. It impacted them immediately. They cowered in their tents and they questioned their own validity. He began to challenge and undermine their purpose and identity. Our enemy wants us to be confused about who (and whose) we are. Fear and doubt was the affect, but what was the effect? The result that they were cowering in their tents. The affect of the enemy’s words against us are no different. He comes to question our identity and our right to call ourselves a child of God. The effect on us can be the same as it was on that battlefield. They allowed this enemy to strip them of their ability and their calling. God gave David a song concerning his enemy and God wants us to have a song too. The 8th Psalm is the song that God gave David after he had overcome Goliath. In that song, David confessed these things. We are made by God. We are made by God to be victorious and to stand up to our enemy. Not only are we made by God, but we are crowned by Him to be His children. Third, David says that God have us dominion. He didn't make us to be ruled, but to rule. We have been commissioned and have an anointing on our life. Goliath wanted to make them forget who they were, but God sent David to remind us that we have a position, a calling and an anointing on our life. We encounter Goliath spirits on a daily basis who tries to undermine us and our purpose. David’s song reminds us that we are her for a purpose. We are a divined purposed being that is here for a reason. We may be challenged, but we are not to be changed from who we are. We need a song that will help us to live like we are a child of God.
