It does not take much look at our world and know that our faith is under attack. Anything that is decent, clean and wholesome is ridiculed and maligned by the world. Those who live by faith and hope and who live by the love that Jesus demonstrated are a target. We live in a world that is in constant change and flux. Uncertainty is a fact of life. There is little that remains the same year after year. Our text says "and now abideth..." Paul reminds us that no matter how much changes in life, these things remain constant: Faith, Hope and Charity. They define the character of a spiritual life. Faith, Hope and Love continue to work no matter what may change in life. Not only do these things last, they outlast all. They have survived kings and kingdoms. These three things must be held. We cannot allow our lives to be stripped of these three things. Paul tells us that these three things will survive all no matter what our world may do. Faith, Hope and Charity will get us through life. Amidst all the changes, Faith, Hope and Love will see us through. In order to understand all that God has for our life, we must possess Faith, Hope and Love. They develop and perfect the soul. The value of these three things is almost impossible to explain. These three things sustain us. Our faith is under daily assault. The devil fights to undermine our faith. If he can cause us t question the promises of God, he will have us just as he had Eve. If the devil can destroy our hope, he can destroy us. The bible tells us that a man without hope is most miserable. We can live for a while without food and water, be cannot live without hope. God reminds us that hope is still here and still works. The world has corrupted love; It works to convince us that love is all about us. The prodigal son returned home because he knew that his father loved him. Such is the love of God. It will draw us to Him. God is love. Love is the evidence of Faith and Hope. It is the highest development of the Christian character. It is not self service, it is the opposite of selfishness. Love will help keep us tender when life wants to make us brittle. It will keep lend a hand when we are down. Faith, Hope and Love give strength and confidence to the soul. We cannot live without these three virtues. That is why there is such an assault against them. We live in an evil time and it will be Faith, Hope and Love that will allow us to survive.
