Are our lives predetermined? Or do we have free will? Or do both free will and fate play a part in our lives’ trajectory? The Torah itself poses this question, and, as for the answer, leaves us guessing. The predetermined can, at times, be unavoidable, but free will, nevertheless, grants us the ability to swim against the tide.
