Animal offerings. It is always such a challenge for us moderns to wrap our brains around such a notion. Were the ancient Israelites, (you know, the ones who stood at Sinai and received the Torah directly from G-d), a primitive group of primates who performed a primitive practice of animal offerings, or were they really onto something that we can't even begin to imagine today?
