During a recent visit to South Africa, Trevor sat down with Dipuo Gabelokani. When she was 9 years old Dipuo and her siblings were abandoned on a farm near the Botshibelo orphanage in the Magaliesburg, outside Johannesburg. Her mother would tell Dipuo that she was going to the toilet and disappear for months at a time leaving the kids to fend for themselves. Word of the situation reached, Marion Cloete, known as Magogo (grandmother) who started the Botshabelo Orphanage with her husband in 1991. Magogo brought the kids to the orphanage where Dipua thrived and is now a manager. This is Dipuo’s fascinating and inspiring story of hope, in her own words.
