You need to feel needed.
- You take on responsibilities that your partner should and could do independently.
- You take on your partner’s problems and emotions as if they were your own.
- You anticipate the needs of your partner but are unsure of your own needs and feelings.
- Your partner doesn’t feel confident in making decisions for themselves.
- You control and dominate your partner.
- You attempt to fix your partner and solve all of their problems.

How to Stop Caretaking Others:

Practice self-care daily.
- Remind yourself that you are worthy of your time and attention.
- Empower others to solve their own problems.
- Remind yourself that others are capable of managing their own lives.
- Allow others the space and opportunity to decide whether or not they want to take your advice.
- When others tell you their problems: listen, empathize, and empower.
- Only give advice and solutions when asked.
- Set healthy boundaries and maintain them.
