Death by hypothermia is insidious. In the latter stages, your body starts to cooperate with the hypothermia, eventually leading to death. Sin is similar. It numbs your senses and poisons your soul. Through guilt and shame, sin convinces you that you are not worthy of love and acceptance. Shame pushes you away from community with God and others—the very things that can heal and restore you. Shame dies in the context of loving community. The treatment for sin is stripped-down vulnerability through confession—with yourself, with God, and with trusted community. Don't let sin convince you to participate in your own isolation and demise. Walk into the light. Expose your sin. Find healing, forgiveness, love, and acceptance through the spiritual practice of confession.
