Years ago I worked as an addiction coach. The antidote of addiction is connection. There are three different ways we connect, 1. Connection with God, 2. Connection with ourselves, and 3. Connection with others. As an addiction coach I would teach this concept through an art project.
When you are being creative, there are ideas that come into your mind. This is connection with God. It’s connection with something outside of yourself. Expression, or actually creating the art piece is connection with yourself, and vulnerability, sharing your creation is connection with others.
There can be a breakdown in all three of these levels. If we don’t honor and recognize where the inspiration is coming from, that would indicate needed correction surrounding connection with God. Choosing to not act on the idea, not allowing the idea to have a life of its own would be breakdown in connection with ourselves. By painting it, creating a meal for someone, etc. and then keeping it to ourselves, there’s a breakdown within our connection with others.
We all have the innate ability to create, God gave everyone this gift.
