If you have worked in any type of retail business the past 20 years or so, you know that our paper money has changed several times to try to distinguish a real $20, $50 and $100 bill from a counterfeit.
The truth never changes, it is constant, that is Biblical. So why does the real $20 keep changing?
Because the true, authentic value of a $20 bill is not in the paper it is printed on. The value is in the trust that people put into the paper. The changes to the paper, increase trust in the value the $20 represents.
Fear and worry are associated with counterfeit. Trust and faith are associated with authenticity.
The problem is that sometimes we can’t tell the difference between what is real and what is not. Take choosing an opportunity for instance. Let’s say you have the opportunity to go on a trip to the Amazon to swim with alligators and swing through the trees with monkeys. To some, that would be the trip of a lifetime. To others, it would be the worst possible experience they could imagine!
In my new book “The Seven Gateways – Your Map to Integrity in Life and Business”, this idea of counterfeit versus truth is a key principle to learn and understand in order to have the time, energy and resources to actually fulfill your own purpose and live the happiest life possible.
To one person, doing humanitarian work in the wilds of Africa is authentic. To others, serving in their own community is authentic. And in both cases, if they chose the counterfeit opportunity that didn’t resonate, it would be depleting and a huge distraction from their true purpose.
Both great opportunities. Both great acts of service. But one would be authentic and one would be counterfeit.
