In 2 Samuel 7:1–29, David has a good idea. He wants to build a house for God. After all, he is living in a palace while the ark of the covenant rests in a tent. It seems honorable, spiritual, and even obvious.

But God says no.

Instead of allowing David to build Him a house, God makes a covenant with David and promises to build him a house, a dynasty that will last forever. This chapter marks a turning point in redemptive history and ultimately points to Jesus, the true and eternal King who would come from David's line.
