Sin left us in a state much like coal. Black, dirty, filled with all sorts of junk and impurities. We are brittle, broken, fragile. Un-pure. Due to sin, we are removed from all things good because we are not worthy to be in the presence of God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God alone knows the heart because He searches it. He searches it to reward a person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.

The Lord says that “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” (Jeremiah 17:9)

What kind of heart is God looking for? Deuteronomy 10:16 says “God needs a circumcised heart”.

We must therefore open our hearts to God by removing all reservations, coverings, secrets and unbelief. Only when we circumcise our hearts, can we be obedient and walk in the ways of the Lord.

Our heart is designed in such a way that it can grow any type of seed either good or bad.

The Bible talks about the heart around 946 times…

When we look at David’s prayer in Psalm 51:10-12, he cries out to God to create in him a clean / pure heart, because he knows that without a pure heart he cannot please God or have a right relationship with Him.

So, what kind of a heart does God like? God likes a heart which:

Serves Him – Deut 11:13
Loves Him – Deuteronomy 30:6 , Matthew 22:37
Keeps His Word – Deuteronomy 26:16
Follows Him – 1 Kings 14:8
Seeks Him – 2 Chronicles 15:12
Praises Him – Psalm 86:12
