We can all get so weird about money, can't we? We can be at the grocery store and wonder why the ten dollars in our hands seem so small now and insufficient to take care of our daily needs. But, to give the same amount at church as a tithe or offering can seem like a vast and painful sacrifice. Yet it is the same amount of money. I suppose it all comes down to perspective, like many things in life. I am confident that most of us can probably relate to that emotional dilemma. We can, and often do, even as Christians feel like we do not have enough money for our day-to-day. I will also be the first to admit that, over the years, ministry leaders have, from time to time, not acted in good faith regarding financial integrity. That kind of transgression has given us all a sour take on the church and the conversation about giving and money that we must have if we are to teach the whole counsel of God's Word. However, financial participation in the local church is a beautiful and fruitful part of worship for the spiritually healthy Christian and local Church body. So when we hear Jesus' teaching on giving, we should take a beat, catch our breath, and realize the beautiful blessings that come from God when we are faithful in our giving. For it is not about how much we give, but the heart in which we give sacrificially to the God who has given freely to us His son on the cross of Calvary that we may have eternal life by faith alone, in Christ alone, all to the glory of God alone.
