Luke 12:4-11. Right after Jesus calls out the religious leaders for their hypocrisy He warns His followers to be aware of the danger that comes from the slow rot of the sin of hypocrisy that has happened to the religious leaders of the day. They had set standards of moral and religious behavior that they themselves did not meet. Therefore they were living disingenuous lives before God and the people. (Luke 12:1-3) This caused many to stumble along the way and there is a future reckoning to those that cause God's people to stumble. Yet, what causes us to start living a life in hypocrisy? (The following is not hypocrisy itself only things that can lead us to that type of behavior) When we fear man's opinion of us over God's. When we forsake the fear of God. When we forget we are a loved child of God and that He provides for us. When we do not speak up and share our faith without apology. When we believe the lie that we are all alone in this world and when we stop reading and obeying God's Word to name a few. Yet, It starts when we start hiding actions and hurts from those who can help us, by putting on a religious mask to protect our wounded souls, when what we really need is the openness found in a trusted community of faith who help us walk with Jesus each and every day.
