Bain said that every person is their own hero, and as a leader, you shouldn’t act as the antagonist or the enemy of their story. And what he meant by that is, be more empathetic and supportive towards your team members!
Everyone is facing their own silent battles every day. These situations are inevitable because having problems in life is constant. These things that they are going through can affect their performance, either positively or negatively. Conversing and actually trying to empathize with them can help you help them perform better. Additionally, you will be aware of why they are not acting as well as they used to. You won’t be stressing out over it compared to if you do not know the reason behind those setbacks.
Trust me, an employee or a co-worker who feels they are valued and noticed will be much happier. It is easy to notice if a person’s intentions are fake or authentic. Thus, just being a friend to them and providing a safe place where they can work.
