God is righteous, but we are not. As a result, each and every person is born under a sentence of condemnation for his or her sin. But God, in His immeasurable grace, refused to abandon us to our inevitable doom. Instead He intervened with a solution: His Son. Jesus lived the faithful life that no person has ever lived, and He obediently died upon on the cross to satisfy God's wrath against each and every sinner. Because of Jesus, God can be both righteous, and the one who declares as righteous every person who believes.
