It’s episode 162 with Harriet Kline, author of the excellent debut novel ‘This Shining Life’. I’ve read This Shining Life and it really is a brilliant book that I highly recommend. We talk about her path to publication, how Harriet’s job as a registrar influenced some of the themes of her book and why momentum is everything when you are writing a novel.

Harriet Kline works part time registering births, deaths and marriages and writes for the rest of the week. Her story Ghost won the Hissac Short Story Competition and Chest of Drawers won The London Magazine Short Story Competition. Other short stories have been published online with Litro, For Books’ Sake, and on BBC Radio 4. She lives in Bristol with her partner and two teenage sons and her debut novel ‘This Shining Life’is out right now.
