A nursing career can take many different trajectories. It doesn’t always take you where you think you may go. You can constantly reinvent yourself if you’re willing to be open to new and interesting problems to solve. Today, we’re chatting with Dr. Sheridan Miyamoto, who shares about the development of her passion and interest in rural health and sexual assault care, when she worked as a new nurse in a rural community clinic and a child abuse clinic. These years of experience led her to realize that the systems themselves need to change in order to prevent sexual assault and trafficking and to best protect children and also help parents to be successful. We’ll discuss the importance of sexual assault nurse examiners, the resources they need to be successful, and how to create a safe space for sexual assault victims to receive quality care.
