The Psalms reflect and express Israel's sonship, and so give voice to all of the dimensions of that sonship and the various challenges associated with it. Hence the Psalter contains psalms of lament and imprecation, but also ones that specifically address Israel's ever-present idolatry and the woes and judgment that it incurred. Psalm 50 is one such psalm.
