Sound Installation for Wireless Headphones

Rift zone can be understood as a cryptic fugue of generated and recorded sounds to somehow represent a cross section of the earth’s energies and capture a perceptible subset of them. It is an attempt to describe in sonic terms the under-the-surface characteristics of the mythic elements of earth, air, fire, and water in the context of palpating the earth as a dynamic integrated system. We know that its processes interleave biological, geological and electromagnetic forces from multiple overlapping spheres which sometimes ignore one another and sometimes interact, creating inscrutable outputs. The geophysical sciences tell us much; we have come to understand a great deal, but the earth still clutches its secrets, and, well, if they cannot be described empirically, then at least we can give the imagination free reign.
