Ephesians 2:11:22

How Do We Respond?
Know: Proclamation is a continual act of worship for a Jesus follower that intersects with every area of our lives. He will never leave us, He is our helper, He is the same yesterday and today and forever. He is worthy to be proclaimed.
Do: Meditate on the imperatives in Hebrews 13. Because Jesus is better, He informs how we are to live.
Feel: Awe before the Lord who is worthy of our sacrifice and praise. Hope that He enables us to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Want: Long to be strengthened by grace, to hold fast to the truth of God’s Word, and to grow in discernment about diverse and strange teachings that are not in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God (1 Timothy 1:11).

Express and feel gratitude that we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Run the race of faith that is set before us now… Knowing the unshakable promises that belong to us through Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant.
WANT
Long for and pray for those who have fallen short of the grace of God, and rejected the gift of grace through Jesus. Pray for opportunities to share the message of the gospel.

Consider 1 Peter 4:1–2, [1] Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, [2] so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
Do: Encourage family and friends who are experiencing devastating hardships with the hope of the gospel.
Want: Meditate on Matthew 6:33, Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

(1) For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. (2) Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? (3) But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. (4) For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. (5) Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; (6) in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. (7) Then I said, 'Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.'" (8) When he said above, "You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), (9) then he added, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He does away with the first in order to establish the second. (10) And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:1-10
Big Truth: Jesus is the Father’s Will for Atonement
Big Ideas: The old sacrifices provided only a picture of something greater. The old sacrifices provided a reminder. Only the sacrifice of Christ perfectly fulfills the Father’s will. Only the sacrifice of Christ is able to sanctify those who draw near.

In the BTM recording, Pastor Mike, Jennifer, and Jeremy talked about the practical means by which a believer lives out their new identity in union with Jesus and dead to sin. Pastor Mike gave a very practical formula for us to remember... “Consider yourself dead to sin (Romans 6:11) and present yourself to God (Romans 6:13).” This formula prioritizes a mindset that first considers/reckons/counts oneself dead to sin and then takes action according to this mindset.

Even though for believers sin is defeated, sin is not eliminated. A believer could be discouraged by the constant struggle with their sin. Consider the quote from John Newton that Pastor Mike shared as part of his message and share with your group about the growth you have seen within yourself as you have continued to live out the truth of being dead to sin and united with Jesus.
“I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I wish to be, I am not what I hope to be. But I thank God I am not what I once was, and I can say with the great apostle, “By the grace of God I am what I am.”
Close your time together by reading Philippians 1:6 and praying that you would be cooperative with and obedient to God as He completes His work within you.

In Luke 22, Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper to be celebrated in the place of The Passover. Understanding the context of The Passover gives insight into Jesus’ direction to his disciples. Read Exodus 12 and answer the following questions.
What is significant about the timing of the celebration of The Passover? When are the people supposed to celebrate it? (Exodus 12:2).
Describe the sacrifice that is to be offered. (Exodus 12:3-6) Read Exodus 12:7-11. What are God’s instructions for:
The blood of the animal
The flesh of the animal
The manner in which the people are to participate in the sacrifice
Why does God give these instructions for The Passover to His people? (Exodus 12:12-13)
That first Passover was not to be observed only that night while the Israelites were in Egypt. God gave them clear instructions that they were to celebrate it yearly. For what reason? (Exodus 12:24-27)
Now that you have more of an understanding about the context of The Passover, make some connections to Jesus’ institution of the Lord’s Supper as the replacement for The Passover.
Who is the sacrifice that is to be remembered at the Lord’s Supper? (Luke 22:19)
Recall the lamb offered at The Passover, what was distinctive about the lamb?
Did Jesus meet the standard of being without blemish? (1 Peter 2:22; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15)
Consider Big Idea #3 from the sermon. Discuss the idea of the Lord’s Supper being instituted in order to proclaim the Gospel and anticipate the coming Marriage Supper of the Lamb. How do these aspects of the Lord’s Supper make it different from the celebration of The Passover?

In fact, many of the decisions regarding school, church, work, etc. I just plain do not agree with and am having a difficult time reconciling myself with the decisions that are being made. During this week’s Behind The Message, Pastor Daniel & Jennifer along with Wes Tucker unpack this past weekend’s message discussing further Jesus’ statement: “I Am The Bread Of Life.” They highlight the importance of acknowledging that it is the Spirit Who gives life and that there is nothing that our fleshly selves can contribute to an unbeliever’s conversion. Our sole work is to make much of Jesus...being filled by the Spirit, sharing the Gospel by faith, and trusting God to bring to Him those who He calls. Holding to this truth will encourage us to proclaim the Gospel more boldly, pray more desperately, and love more truly.

In this week’s Behind The Message, our Bible 2020 series kicks off the reading of the New Testament beginning with the long anticipated fulfillment of God’s covenant promises fulfilled in the incarnation of Jesus. Jennifer, Pastor Daniel, and Pastor Mike continue the discussion from the weekend’s sermon about Who Jesus is and our proper response to Him.

In our 2020 Bible Reading Plan, we have turned from the final pages of the Old Testament to the first pages of the New Testament. Keep in mind that while today we simply turn a few pages, during the time leading up to the beginning of the New Testament, God had paused His communication with his people through His prophets for some 400 years. God had spoken on numerous occasions and through various people, but He was now preparing to speak His greatest and most powerful Word to mankind through the Son, Jesus Christ.

-In the sermon from this past weekend, Pastor Mike challenged us to see that the degree of the certainty of our faith is directly proportional to the place we give God’s Word in our lives...the more priority given to God’s Word, the more certain our faith is in the midst of uncertain times. -Do you give priority to God’s Word...either by the time devoted to reading it or by the authority you allow it to have in guiding your life? -Share some practical ways that you give God’s Word priority in your life.
-Read Luke 1:32-33, one of the Scripture passages that was used in the sermon this weekend. - What were the three truths that Pastor Mike brought out from these verses? - These truths are in direct fulfillment of God’s covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7:12-13. There were approximately 1,000 years between the time God made the covenant with David and when He fulfilled the covenant through the birth of Jesus. - What does this teach us about God? - Now, read Hebrews 1:1-3. Discuss how these verses give further insight into Who Jesus is and the purpose of His incarnation.
Pastor Mike closed his sermon this weekend with a challenge from the shepherd’s response to the good news of the birth of Jesus. He asked us,…”what are you going to do with the privilege God has given to you by Him having made Jesus known to you?”
