We back with new music. Many artists that I love including Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, Roisin Murphy, Gaga and Kylie dropped albums this year that we rooted in disco. I feel like people are always saying disco is back, but did it ever really leave?

Whats up kids? I mean 2020 is off the hook. Every day something crazier goes down. I would clutch my pearls but the strand been done broke.
Anyway, on to the music. I put together this mix feeling like I wanted or needed to escape. There's no larger social message here, its just a journey through sounds and beats that is giving me a time when I could roam the streets freely, taking in the sites and the shows. If shit was normal this would be my soundtrack on a day wandering around.

What's up kids? Summer is flying by even though it has been super out of the ordinary. The world is in a crazy place, but I am hopeful we will get to the other side. Music lifts my soul and allows me to embody a whole ass mode different than what we are going through.
I recently watched Black is King on Disney+. Just like last year when Bey dropped the album The Gift: The Lion King, I was inspired by the beats and the afro-centricity. I hope you love this mix and it lifts your soul.

What's up kids? We are most definitely living through interesting times. Sometimes it feels like we are headed towards the end of the world as we know it. But then again there are moments that give me hope that good things will come of all the challenges we are facing. And yet I sense that we likely have more trying times ahead too.
In the words of Erykah Badu, "I'm an artist, and I'm sensitive about my shit." I have been deeply affected by whats going in the world. I feel like for the first time people are hearing and seeing what black folks have been saying all along. The verdict is out whether this leads to lasting and meaningful change, but its validating to be seen and to be heard.
This mix embodies everything I am feeling right now. At times its angry and defiant, other times its about love and community. This is perhaps one of the more personal mixes I have done in awhile. I often give y'all insights into my thoughts and feelings on these mixes, but this one keeps it 100.

Welcome back kids!
I am dropping this new mix because several of y'all asked me for it. Kim English...gone too soon.
Legit, this was one of the more challenging, yet rewarding mixes I have done. Never have a created a full tribute of just one artist, particularly one who has been remixed by such a wide array of producers.
Kim English is a legendary dance floor diva; her remixes spanned so many dance genres (circuit, soulful house, gospel house, and house). It was a challenge to bring all those disparate styles together. I rarely re-record mixes, but this one I wanted to get just right. Second pass come out totally different anyway.
Each of the tracks on this mix speaks to me, but some have special meaning to me. For example, Learn to Luv (Junior Vasquex Remix) is in the top 20 of my all time favorite songs of any genre. The lyrics are inspirational, the piano is a bit moody and somber, the beats hit. And of course there’s that infectious synth that cuts through the track and gives it fire. Junior's mix is wonderful because its evokes sadness, triumph, and audacity all at once. Admittedly, I like multiple versions of this song, so I layered into a Harry Choo Choo Romero remix. Ironically, when I first discovered this song back in like 2004, I don’t think I knew what it meant to love myself. It feels good that I got to do this tribute fully loving myself at last.
I kept this entire set at 125 bmp, which made the circuit songs sound completely different. Unspeakable Joy (Razor n Guido remix), which I heard for the first time back in 1998 on a dancefloor in Boston, should only be played at 125. The horns have extra punch and you get to hear the layers of percussion. The vocals come across more clearly and Kim's vocal shine.
I wasn’t going to include Michael T Diamond’s remix of Jumpin and Bumpin because for some reason I was thinking I didn’t care for that Darude Sandstorm sample, but when I heard it loud in my studio, the memories came rushing back. I distinctly remember being at Splash in NYC on Friday nights to support my friend David Knapp, and hearing this song drop. I don’t think I ever told him how much he’s inspired me as a DJ.
Guido Osario’s remix of Treat me Right is such perfection. Reminds me of warm summer nights on the dancefloor on Fire Island. For reasons best left unsaid, I didn’t fully grasp what Kim was saying in Treat me Right. But oh how the lyrics ring true for me.

Around 45 minutes, I go deep into Kim’s catalogue. I wasn’t familiar with 4 the Luv of Music until recently. But it gives me life. Its def one of the highlights of this mix for me. Same is true for Been So Long (Wamdue Remix). This song is beautiful and it anchors the last quarter of this mix. It really touches me and I could listen to it over and over.
I had to close the mix out with Everyday (Hex Hector and Mac Qualye). The lyrics say everything I need to hear right now. Who knew Kim was singing about gratitude? Hell, I didnt even know what that was when I was little thing in the clubs.

Hey Kids. I am back yet again with more new music. So this mix took a lot more effort than my recent efforts. I couldn’t find the right vibe and then once I did I had to keep editing out certain song because they didn’t give me what I needed her. So this mix is definitely just a touch less hard than the last several mixes. I know I will be disappointing some of my fans, but at the same time I will be pleasing others. I decided to embrace all sounds of my music interests even if it sometime confusing or disappointing to fans who expect a particular side consistently.
Truthfully, there are common ingredients for all my mixes. I have to have dope bass lines. I have to have thoughtful and meaningful vocals peppered throughout. I am sure some of you do listen to the lyrics, but they always provide insight as to whats up with me. The best part about this is I don’t necessarily consciously select songs for their lyrics. I sample dozens of songs and organize 13-17 songs that I might work with it. Its not until I fished the whole mix that I uncover the hidden meanings of my mixes.
So this mix reminds me of the legendary Junior Vasquez. He was famous for bring it hard with big beats but then transitioning into full on vocals and also featured songs that most other DJs wouldn’t touch. Most of the tracks are many years old, some 10 years or more. But at the same time I believe they are timeless, as they sound current as ever. There of course some new tracks.
So sorry for this novel, but I am feel rather proud and I am reflecting a great deal on this mix. Its fun and the energy remains high despite it not being full on circuit music. I hope you love this deeply personal mix, as it filled with some of my all-time favorites from pivotal moments in my evolution.
I am withholding the track listening because I want the gems to be surprises.

What’s up children? Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Its finally hot and sticky here in NYC and I cannot find any of summer clothing. I was desperate for some shorts, so I cut up a pair of pants that felt to form fitting. They work really well as shorts. Anyway, onto the music…
So, I have a bit more free time these days. I was sitting at home and started sampling new beats at the virtual record shop. Before long I had the shell of what is to be this mix. Interestingly, I could not find a full 16 or 17 songs that I wanted to buy which is generally the right amount for me to create a mix with depth and nuance. I found myself clicking over to my library to add songs I haven’t touched in a few years, which I think is a dope outcome. I keep the energy up from beginning to end.
