In the passage before us -2 Corinthians 11-1-6-, Paul uses the figure of marriage betrothal to demonstrate his concern for the church. He also used the foolishness of bragging, since the false teachers used that method and the church seemed to approve of it. Nevertheless, Paul expressed his concern for the church because God had used him as a friend to arrange the marriage of His Son to the church. Since it was the father's responsibility to ensure that the bride remained morally pure before the marriage, Paul expressed his desire to present the church to Jesus as a pure virgin.-Paul's fear was that as Adam's bride, Eve, fell under the spell of the tempter, so the Corinthian church would fall to the temptation of another gospel.
