We determine our direction with God as an afterthought. We weigh the costs. We decide a course. We make a move in a particular direction, whether vocationally, or relationally, or with respect to homes, community etc. We decide which way we should go, and then maybe, just maybe, consider what God might think about our direction. There are innumerable issues with approaching life like this, particularly for those of us who follow Jesus. But the primary problem is that we deprive ourselves of the wisdom of the One who makes the world turn… who tells the Sun to rise… who puts breath in our lungs… who set the boundaries between earth and sea… surely He who lives outside time will know which way we are to go…

Of this we can be sure, God gives direction through prayer and fasting. If we seek Him with earnest devotion, He will show us which way we should go.
