Why do bad things happen to good people? I do not know a single human being who has not at some point in their lives asked this question. This may be the great paradox of existing in this world. People, having suffered under the many variables that make up this paradoxical, illogical world, decide that every wrong rests with God and therefore He is not to be trusted.

We may not be ready to “leave the faith” today, but I’m willing to wager every one of us has felt that the world is unfair, unbalanced, not right. I’m willing to wager that everyone one of us has wondered why bad things happen to good people and why wicked people seem to keep gaining ground. We all have a problem with this puzzling world.

Even if it is not a present struggle, it has been. Even if it is not at the fore of our mind right this minute, it will be. Many days we simply can’t make sense of how this world works. What then do we do? The Teacher gives what can at first seem a trite, typical “Bible answer.” Entrust yourself to God in the midst of the paradox.
