Essential to truly understanding the Gospel of Jesus is seeing the neediness of our souls. Western culture has taught us to believe that we have the power within ourselves to achieve everything we need. That all we need to do is pull ourselves up by our boot straps. However, this is the antithesis to the Gospel of Jesus. In the conclusion to John 9, this truth illuminated for us. Jesus gives everything to the man who had no way of healing himself, and condemns those that claim they need no healing. He gives sight to the blind, and shows the seeing their blindness.
