While Jesus may or may not have been speaking of those with same-sex attraction (SSA) in Matthew 19:10-12, the applicability of his words is undeniable. Some are born, others made, in such a way that they cannot experience the fruits of sexual and emotional intimacy that are experienced by so many, if they are to hold fast to the Scripture’s teaching on sex, human sexuality and intimate relationships. Equally as clear, from Isaiah 56:1-8, is that God promises a unique gift for those committed to celibacy. Many might say a life of celibacy is unconscionable, that no one can bear such a burden. But sexual grati cation is a privilege, not a right. And to those who hold fast to God’s covenant through celibacy, God says, “I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters...an everlasting name that shall never be cut off.”
