If you're like me, you may occasionally surprised to discover that things like Pop-Tarts still exist. Mmm, two wafers of hyrolyzed plywood, tightly encasing a layer of synthetic fruitiness. Just pop it in the toaster, take a bite, and find your tongue irreparably burned. But we're being unnecessarily snarky.
The bigger surprise was that a Pop-Tarts World NYC flagship store had been constructed at Times Square in August. Alas, it just closed down. NewYorkology has the scoop:
“The Pop-Tarts brand is evaluating this successful experience as we plan more exciting activities for 2011 and beyond,” a spokesman for Pop-Tarts parent Kellogg Company told NewYorkology via e-mail today. “Pop-Tarts World was originally created as a test, and its success will assist Kellogg in ongoing efforts to bring brands to life and strengthen bonds with consumers. New York City and Times Square have historically been the epicenter of one-of-a-kind experiences and so it was a perfect location for the Pop-Tarts experience.”
If you're still interested in obtaining some merchandise, check out the online store. There, you'll find their official Cherry Lip Balm for $3.95. "How would you like to keep the delicious flavor of Frosted Cherry Pop-Tarts® toaster pastries on your lips? Now you can with this flavored lip balm! The standard-size tube of soothing balm is also available in Frosted Strawberry flavor."
