MLB insider Jon Heyman joined the show. Jon talked about the Yankees current success and how they have a step on the Pirates. He said he wants to see a salary floor in baseball more than a salary cap. He talked about some of the “cornerstone” pieces that the Pirates have to build on that some other bottom tier teams don’t. He labeled Ke’Bryan Hayes, Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds as “very good” position players. He talked about the trade market for a player like Reynolds and said it’s a seller’s market right now. Jon thinks the Pirates should fetch two Top 100 prospects for Reynolds. He said the Pirates should look for a trade partner with developed, young pitchers because that is their biggest need. Miami was the team he referenced. He doesn’t think it’s a bad idea to hear phone calls on David Bednar because he will be a hot reliever at the deadline. Jon said Jose Quintana has good value and the Pirates could get overpaid for him in a trade.
