Could it be that the primary reason that many people, including believers, seem to live lives seemingly void of joy is because they are focused on the wrong thing. Most people in this world, certainly in the United States, have their focus on the things of this world. A new house, better car, a new boat, better vacations and on and on. That plan works really well as long as you are getting the things you think will bring you joy. But when the gravy train stops and circumstances change so too does their source of joy. Paul in Philippians 2:5-8 presents another plan. Instead of fixing your eyes on the things of this world, fix your eyes on Jesus who never changes and is always faithful. He has demonstrated his love towards us by sacrificing His life for us on the cross. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. The more we fix our eyes on Him, the more our lives will be filled with genuine joy in the midst of a grumpy world.
