We talk about US foreign policy often on this show so its about time we had an actual expert on. Scott Horton is the author of Fool's Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan and, recently released, Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism. He is also the director of the Libertarian Institute, editorial director of antiwar.com, host of Antiwar Radio on Pacifica, 90.7 FM KPFK in Los Angeles and he has done more than 5,400 interviews since 2003- all of which can be heard on his podcast The Scott Horton Show. I've been following Scott's work for several years now so it was a great honor to be able to interview him on Undoctrinated. Scott tells us who the "neo-cons" actually are and what their role in the War on Terrorism is. We also talk about numerous misleading narratives that have allowed this catastrophe to exist for so long including some of the dangerous war mongering lies that have plagued US relations with Iran and much more. Ive catalogued all the important source material in a digital folder on my phone and decided to write an essay based on what i've learned. This is that essay. Ashton Forbes came on the show. Ashton works in healthcare IT and is currently the plaintiff in a lawsuit against Gavin Newsom regarding mask mandates in the state of California. It's easy to see why mask mandates make little sense with all the available science regarding face coverings and virology. In this episode Tim gives his thoughts on Robert Mueller's recent testimony before members of congress. The most important points of this rant are dispelling the myth that the US was attacked by the Russian government during the 2016 elections and explaining why Robert Mueller seems perfectly willing to throw away professionalism to push his politically motivated attempt at controlling media narratives related to the administration. In the following segment Tim reads a revealing article from The American Conservative titled, "America's Monopoly Crisis Hits the Military". Then in the wrap-up, Tim gives his thoughts on the article including how much of what the article portrays is in conflict with his free market economic beliefs but also how it exposes gigantic flaws in the central philosophy of national defense in the USA. The US has a terrible habit of arming people that are sure to become its enemy and in many cases they end up turning US made weapons back against them. In this episode we talk about how the US is currently arming a proven enemy in Syria. On September 11th 2001 the United States was attacked by an ambitious, but small, group of fanatical rebels known as al-Qaeda (Tim Ryan, I hope you're listening). This vicious, surprise attack sparked years of a failed war on an ambiguous concept sold to the American people as a war on terrorism. Al-Qaeda's stated goal of those horrific attacks on 9/11 was to induce an over-reaction by the US and to suck it into a long term fight in the Middle East. As that war regressed into utter failure, objectives became less clear and now it seems as though complete destabilization of the region is the goal of US foreign policy. Now the reality of the situation is such a backwards quagmire that the US finds itself allied with the groups closely affiliated with those who attacked us on 9/11. Tune in because we shine a microscope on the dynamics of the war in Syria. As far as I can tell, the only "good guys" over there are the civilians forced to live their lives in the middle of a chaotic civil war that pits US coalition backed, al-Qaeda affiliated radicals against the Syrian government led by a brutal dictator. Choosing a side in this conflict seems morally reprehensible but that is exactly what the USA is doing.

In this episode Tim reads "The Redirection" by Seymour Hersh. Those who know US foreign policy know that the US has a terrible habit of arming it's enemies or groups that quickly become it's enemies, creating a situation that, all too often, results in US soldiers being slaughtered by their countries own weapons. "The Redirection" was published by The New Yorker magazine in 2007 and it tells of how the George W Bush administration began to arm Sunni radical groups in an attempt to mitigate a fabricated threat from Iran, who's influence in the region grew steadily due to the first several years of the US occupation of Iraq in the early 2000's. We quickly learn, as Hersh points out, that US soldiers and citizens alike are being stabbed in the back by the administration as these radicals are closely aligned with al-Qaeda terrorists. Unfortunately, policies like the one depicted in "The Redirection" have become commonplace in US foreign policy. Stay tuned for the wrap-up where I do a quick review of "Ghost Wars" a novel by Steve Coll. Enjoy!

In this episode Tim reads the Undoctrinatingly, informative article by the great Matt Taibbi, "The Pentagon's Bottomless Money Pit". Featured in a recent issue of The Rollingstone Magazine, "The Pentagon's Bottomless Money Pit" is a startling expose on the DOD's inability to pass a financial audit and reveals the likelihood that billions of taxpayer dollars are wasted annually on what amounts to disorganized clerical errors.

Several weeks ago my friend Nathan and I had an intense conversation centered around modern politics with an emphasis on the Russia investigation but the file was too large and when it came time to save it, my computer nearly imploded and the file was lost. Well, on Saturday night Nathan came by and we attempted to rehash our discussion. Stick round for the second segment to hear this discussion. Enjoy!

In this episode we discuss the greatest animated show of all time The Boondocks....but first we pay homage to the late great Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. by playing a sample of his memorable speech about the Vietnam War. Then we talk music as usual and TJ surprises everyone when he reveals his "cant miss Coachella artist of 2019". Stick around for the last segment when Tim and TJ get into a heated debate about who the most accurate passer in the NFL is. Tim wins this debate though as he gets TJ to totally deny that he was even debating accurate passers in the first place....a lie, as you will hear in the show. Enjoy!

The NY port authority has decided to install a monument near ground zero in New York commemorating the G20 summit. Included in the monument is a 9' tall candy wrapped in the Saudi Arabian flag. Needless to say I find this quite offensive and Natalie and I sit down to talk about the monument, Saudi Arabia's role in the 9/11 attacks, Saudi relations with al Qaeda and the genocide in Yemen. We wrap it up on a lighter note with a book and movie review. Enjoy!
